SMS Error from Bitly Rate Limit Send Continuation

There are limits to the rate that the personalised links can be created for SMS. When the limit is reached the entire send stops. It would be great if when this occurs the send pauses and then continues the send after a pre-defined wait time.

In addition:

When a rate limit error occurs it would be great to be notified in real-time (rather than within 24 hours).

How will this idea be used?

This will allow campaign messages that are time sensitive to continue to send, following a rate limit error. It will also save us time re-creating campaigns and resolving automated program send issues.

We have released a WCA link shortening service which does not have the rate limitations like the Bitly integration. Switching to the WCA link shortening service should address this problem.

    Thanks Bipin.

The issue is that throttling doesn't work with Automated and API triggered sends. If we could add a throttling limit to automated sends and  also a global limit that matches the bitly agreed limit it would resolve the issues of going over the limit.

Free bitly accounts are rate limited to 10K per hour and 10K per month. Watson Campaign Automation (WCA) can use up the entire 10K limit in span of less than one min. So when you ask that WCA to pause and resume after pre-defined wait time, this is not going to solve your issue as you cannot shorten any more links until the following month (when Bit.ly would allow you shorten additional links). So we cannot keep the mailing to be in pause mode for up to 30 days.

Assuming you have an enterprise bit.ly account and have higher rate limit then what you need to do is set the WCA to throttle SMS Send rate to match your rate limit rate. This way, WCA will not attempt to send any more messages than # of links Bit.ly can shorten per hour.
